Creating Anchors

How to create links to places on an individual page

An anchor is a way to link one part of a page to another. They are often used at the top of a page so that people can jump directly to a section that is farther down without having to scroll to find it.

Anchors have 2 parts.

Part 1: The anchor point. i.e. The place you are linking to.

1. Go to the part of the page where you want the link to jump to (usually located farther down the page). In this case, it will be right at the title of the section.

2. Type in anchor1.gif Type the brackets and the # sign. Replace nameoftheanchor with the actual text you want to be the name of the anchor. Do not use any spaces.

3. Click Save

Part 2: The link.

1. Go back into edit mode
2. At the top of the page type in text for each section of your wiki. Highlight the text that you want to use as your link.
3. Click on the link button in the toolbar. Link.gif
4. For Page Name, select the name of the page you want to link to. This is most often going to be the page you are currently working on. Click 'Choose an existing page' and using the down arrow, choose your page
3. Click the "Link to anchor?" link, which will then display a box into which you can type the anchor name. What you type in must be exactly what you named the anchor or this link won't work.
4. Click Add Link button
5. Save
